What this page covers

subTranslator (subtranslator.net) is a free website that translates SRT subtitle files with AI. It is run by Serşen Fatih Adalı. This page explains what information is processed when you use the site, where it is kept and who it is shared with.

The site has no sign-up or accounts. We do not ask for your name, email address or any other identifying information.

Subtitle files you upload

The file you upload is read in your browser. To translate it, the subtitle text is sent in parts through our server to Google's Gemini API, and the translation comes back to your browser. We do not store your subtitle files or their translations on our server.

Google processes the text it receives under its own terms. Under Google's Gemini API terms, content sent while using the free tier may be used to improve Google's products. See the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service for details. Do not translate content you need to keep confidential.

Your Gemini API key

To translate, you enter your own free Gemini API key; translations use your own Google account's quota.

Your key is kept in your browser for one year in an encrypted cookie that code on the page cannot read (HttpOnly). It reaches our server only with translation and key-check requests and is passed on to Google; it is not saved on our server and is not written to logs. You can delete it at any time with the "Remove" button on the site.

Information kept in your browser

So that an unfinished translation can resume where it stopped, its progress (the subtitle text and the translation so far), measurements of translation speed and the models' daily usage are kept in your browser's local storage. This information is not sent to us. You can delete it with the "New translation" button or by clearing your browser data.

Cookies

The site uses two cookies of its own: "locale", which remembers the interface language you chose, and "gemini_key", which holds your Gemini key in encrypted form. Both last one year.

When ads are enabled, Google and its partners also use advertising cookies, described in the next section.

Advertising

The site may show Google AdSense ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.

You may opt out of personalized advertising in Google's My Ad Center. You can opt out of other third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.

Where the law requires it (for example in the European Union and the United Kingdom), your consent is asked for before advertising cookies are used.

Server logs and hosting

The site is hosted by Render. For the service to run and stay secure, the hosting provider may keep standard technical logs such as IP address, browser type and request time. We do not use an analytics tool that collects visitor statistics.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Your rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Turkey's personal data protection law (KVKK), you have the right to access your data and to ask for it to be corrected or deleted. Since we keep no data on our server that identifies you, most of this information is only in your own browser and can be deleted by you as described above.

If this policy changes, the current version is published on this page with its new date.
